twenty-five years after, traces of the war with georgia are still tangible everywhere in abkhazia. all the way down to the center of capital sukhum, the republic lies littered with carcasses of buildings that slowly are being claimed by mother nature.

the subtropical, enclosed between the black sea and the mountains of the caucasus, republic is poor. abkhazia scents of a mixture of eucalyptus and melancholy. large numbers of cows roam the country’s solely highway, where soviet-made cars dominate the street scene. in some ways, time seems to have stopped here…
